Local Dog Beach Under Threat – environmentalists claim that the beach at Torre Del Mar is unhygienic
Local Dog Beach Under Threat
A stretch of beach at Torre Del Mar near Velez Malaga on the Costa Del Sol has been designated for use by people with dogs. Now environmentalists are claiming that it is against the law and must be returned to it’s previous use as a normal beach.
Hygiene Issues
GENA, the group protesting about the dogs on the beach have claimed that the dogs are making the beach and surrounding water unhygienic, and that natural plant life in the area may be suffering because of the presence of dogs.
Illegal
The head of GENA, Rafael Yus, claims that the use of the beach by dog owners is illegal. Local laws state that it is forbidden to bathe or clean animals on the beach. GENA say that the 50 metre stretch of beach was opened up to animals without approval.
Costa Del Sol Dog Friendly Beaches
There are other dog friendly beaches on the Costa Del Sol which have not been challenged by GENA. These include:
- Playa Arroyo Totalán (Málaga)
- Playa del Castillo Sohail (Fuengirola, Málaga)
- Playa Piedra Paloma, Casares (Málaga)
