Popular Expat Being Honoured With MBE
The publication of The Queen’s Birthday Honours List has come as a boost to British expats living on the Costa Del Sol. Popular community figure Anne Hernandez is being recognised with an MBE for her services to British nationals living in Spain.
Since the early days of Brexit Anne has been working to provide support and information to Brits in Spain. Anne has lived in Spain for over 30 years, and is currently based in the Mijas Costa area. She is President of Brexpats In Spain, an organisation which she has been instrumental in founding and operating.
Accurate Information For Expats In Spain
Through Brexpats In Spain Anne is working to provide accurate information to expats, and give help to Brits living here. From TIE documents and driving license exchanges, to helping people with access to services and supporting the Embassy in their efforts to provide information, Anne has given her time generously to those who need it.
The British Ambassador to Spain has welcomed the news of Anne’s recognition. Hugh Elliott said “Anne has given freely and selflessly of her time, actively and practically supporting UK nationals, the Embassy, and the Spanish authorities. As the driving force behind Brexpats in Spain, Anne has brought together a body of trusted experts to provide free and accurate information to members; ensuring UK nationals are aware of their rights and take the necessary actions to protect them. Her work has had an indisputably positive effect on the lives of so many UK nationals living in Spain.”
“Humbled And Delighted”
Speaking to 93.6 Global Radio ahead of the announcement today, Anne told us “I am not only very humbled and delighted but I am almost embarrassed to accept such an award. I never associated the MBE with ordinary people like me, who have just gone about helping fellow Brits.”
“I can’t deny it has been an uphill struggle the last 5 years, because I am not political, so to get my head around lots of the new requirements Brexit has forced upon us to enable us to continue living here has not been easy.” Anne continues. “I do fully understand how totally out of their depth most Brits here and those still planning to come here must be feeling. I am happy to be able to put paid to the awful rumour mongering and, together with my team and experts at Brexpats in Spain, offer them the professional help they deserve.”
