Benagalbón is a district belonging to the municipality of Rincón de la Victoria. Events throughout the year include a traditional verdiales competition. It is an initiative by a group of local men and women who, following festival experts’ advice, set up a verdiales club, El Revezo, with the aim of reviving old traditions. These include a clash between rival bands.

The tradition has been kept alive and now, every year in September, Benagalbón goes deep into the roots of Málaga’s traditional singing and pay tribute to its oldest form, verdiales. Verdiales are sung by bands wearing striking costumes and beautiful hats. Led by an alcalde, each band includes a standard bearer, a conch bearer, dancers, fiddlers, three or four guitar players, three or four percussionists and, in Comares-style verdiales, lute and bandurria. Visitors can get a glimpse of this traditional style of music at the festival, listening to the wonderful renditions of several bands as they taste local wines and foods.
