Benalmadena Platform To Be Moved Next Week – the grounded sea platform has become a tourist attraction

Benalmadena Platform To Be Moved Next Week

The ocean platform which ran aground near Benalmadena during storms last week is going to be moved.  Plans have been approved which will see the platform moved from it’s current position near Benalmadena.  The platform is owned by Ferrovial who say there is no danger of it moving in the mean time, with good weather forecast this weekend.

Residents and tourists have been stopping to take pictures of the structure, which became stranded during bad weather.  It is over 20 metres high and 45 metres long.  The platform was being towed from Bilbao to Malaga when  it broke free of the tugboat which was pulling it.  There were fears that it might cause damage to the marina at Benalmadena, though it came to rest on a nearby beach before reaching the marina.
