Brit Arrested In Monda Cigarette Factory Raid
Police have rescued six workers from an illegal underground cigarette factory in Monda. 30 people have been arrested, including 30 year old Daniel Dobbs who has been on the run from British police.
Six workers from the Ukraine almost perished when the air supply to their underground bunker was cut off. The diesel generator supplying oxygen to the factory was switched off, as police did not realise there were people inside the factory which was hidden by a shipping container. It’s thought that the workers had been underground for several weeks.
Hidden Entrance
The entrance to the factory was hidden beneath the shipping container inside a stable block. Stairs led to a network of tunnels and passageways, which connected a sleeping area, kitchen, bathroom, and the factory where the cigarettes were produced.
3500 Cigarettes An Hour
The factory was able to churn out 3500 cigarettes an hour, which were then being packaged to look like a well known brand before being sent to the UK. Police estimate the operation was making over €600,000 a week in profit.
