Fire Kills. Take Care this Summer
Fire risks on the Costa del Sol: We’re approaching the fire season again and already there are reports of small fires on Mijas Costa.
It happens every year… a barbecue, a discarded cigarette end, even camp fires, and the next thing we know, the campo is ablaze. Everyone who’s lived here for a while will tell you stories of fires raging through the dry scrub areas. It’s a real threat during the hot weather. If you’re on holiday here, please take care.
Barbecues and Camp Fires
Local police are reminding people that it is illegal to light a camp fire in most parts of the the Costa Del Sol. Just the spark from a barbecue can trigger a fire. If you’re having a barbecue, make sure you have fire safety equipment to hand. Many communities have strict rules about barbeques and safety equipment.
Do Not Flick Cigarette Ends from your Car
A recklessly discarded but-end can be a real fire hazard. The ground is dry, the scrub in very dry, and so are the verges of the motorways. Not only is it a real danger for residents, but if the police see you the penalties can be harsh.
