Benalmadena Whale Dies

Benalmadena Whale Dies

Benalmadena Whale Dies – a whale which became beached at Benalmadena has died.  The Mediterranean Pilot Whale was washed ashore earlier this week near Benalmadena.

A dozen people tried to steer the whale, which measured three metres long, back into deeper water.  The beachgoers and surfers alerted the police and town council, who dispatched a team from the Centre for Recuperation of Endangered Marine Species (CREMA) who decided to euthanise the animal.  They found it after arriving at the scene near the Hotel Triton infested with parasites and in a poor general condition.

The pilot whale is the largest of the dolphin family.  There are believed to be 270 of them living in the Straits of Gibraltar.
