Deaf Brit Accused Of Blowing Up Cash Machine Fights Extradition
39 year old British father Harry Meadows is fighting extradition from the UK to Spain , where he is charged with being part of a gang who blew up 14 cash machines on the Costa Del Sol. Mr. Meadows claims that he can only lip read when people speak with a Liverpool accent, and will no be able to defend himself in a Spanish court.
Specialist Lip Reader
Spanish authorities fear that Meadows, who has already spent 3 months in a Spanish jail, could be exaggerating his condition. His lawyer claimed at an extradition hearing that Meadows never learned sign language, and requires a specialist lip reader. He claims he is unable to stand trial in Spain because he can’t lip read when people speak with a Spanish accent.
Harry Meadows has pleaded not guilty to stealing €350000 from cash machines along the Costa Del Sol between 2013 and 2014.
