Red Alert Now On The Costa Del Sol

The Costa Del Sol is now on red alert for extreme heat. Spain’s national weather agency (AEMET) has issued a red weather warning which is the most severe of the three warnings. Temperatures are expected to reach 42c on the coast this afternoon, posing a serious risk to health. The warning remains in effect until 9pm.

With the high temperatures comes an increased risk of fires which have been known to devastate areas of the Costa Del Sol. There is also an increased risk to animals, as pet owners are being reminded to provide shade and water for their animals.

Emergency services are on standby to deal with fires caused by the high temperatures.

Types Of Weather Warnings

Amber: Be prepared. There is an increased likelihood of bad weather affecting people in the concerned area, which could potentially disrupt people’s plans and possibly cause travel delays, road and rail closures, interruption to power and the potential risk to life and property.

Red: Take action. Extreme weather is expected. Red means people in the concerned areas should take action now to keep themselves and others safe from the impact of the weather. Widespread damage, travel and power disruption and risk to life is likely.
