Spectacular Shooting Stars Light Up The Costa Del Sol Sky
If you’ve never seen a shooting star, that could be about to change. The Perseid meteor shower is one of the most vibrant and spectacular events to be seen in the night sky. It has been recurring for centuries, when the Earth passes through a field of debris left behind by the comet Swift-Tuttle. As the debris burns up in our atmosphere, it leaves bright trails with explosions of light and colour. NASA have said that this will be the “best meteor shower of the year”.
100 Shooting Stars An Hour
The meteor shower peaks overnight on the 11th and 12th of August, when more than 100 shooting stars an hour may be seen between midnight and dawn. The event will then continue in a less dramatic fashion until the 1st September with occasional shooting stars being visible from the Costa Del Sol.
Viewing conditions tonight and on Monday night will be superb from the Costa Del Sol with clear skies expected. The best viewing places will be away from built up areas where there is less light and fewer obstructions.
