Posters written in English and Spanish have been put up around Malaga reminding tourists to cover up, keep quiet, and ride scooters safely. The campaign is being run by the city countil in response to complaints from residents about the behavior of some tourists, who don’t respect local dress codes and make excessive noise.

One of the posters reminds people not to make too much noise.

Men walking around without shirts in Malaga is against the law and carries a fine of up to €750, though until now this hasn’t been rigorously enforced. Expat Toni Walker who lives near Malaga told us “No one wants to see beer bellies walking through the city and I’m pleased that something is being done about it. Keep it on the beaches, not in the streets. It always seems to be the Brits, I’m not surprised these posters are in English”.

Tourists are being reminded not to ride scooters on the pavement.

The poster campaign is also reminding tourists to respect residents and keep noise levels low, especially when it comes to shouting or playing music outdoors. Another poster tells tourists to keep their scooters off the pavements, and ride only in appropriate places like cycle lanes.
