Spanish Jets Intercept Russian Planes – Two Spanish F-18 fighter jets had to be scrambled to intercept two Russian supersonic bombers.
The Russian TU-160s, known as Blackjack Bombers, were intercepted by the Spanish Air Force to the north of Bilbao on September 22nd.
The details have only emerged after the French Ministry of Defence released the information.
The Spanish response was part of a joint operation with France, Norway and the UK who all saw Russian planes skirt around their airspace.
It comes as tensions have increased recently between western nations and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
