Dolphin Saved At Estepona Beach – a baby dolphin was stranded on the beach at Estepona after getting lost during the bad weather
Dolphin Saved At Estepona Beach
On Monday morning a man spotted a dolphin calf struggling in shallow water towards the east end of Estepona beach. The man entered the water in his normal clothes and waited with the dolphin for three hours until help could arrive.
The calf was taken away by experts to the Centro de Recuperacion de Especies Marinas Amenazadas where it is receiving medical attention. The baby dolphin has minor injuries and bruising. Once recovered, the dolphin will be released back into the wild.
Dolphins In The Mediterranean Sea
The adult short-beaked common dolphin averages nine feet in length and weighs around 440 pounds. Common dolphins in the Mediterranean may be somewhat smaller than their Atlantic and Pacific cousins due to a reduction in available food, one of the reasons he’s listed as endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
This dolphin usually thrives in warm water with plenty to eat. Typically, they don’t like to stray far from home. This dolphin likes to live in schools of 50 to 70, though it is common to find them in smaller groups of 15 to 40 these days. They have an ordered hierarchy, and a school usually subdivides into smaller groups based on age. They are energetic and playful, and love to breach the water, somersault and even tease each other.
