Cachorreña Orange Festival

Cachorrena Orange Festival

Every year Alhaurín el Grande celebrates the Cachorreña Orange Festival. The celebrations are organised on the day of San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers, in the neighbourhood of San Isidro, a magnificent area of Alhaurín.

These festivities celebrate music, dancing, the wonderful local gastronomy, and good times. Visitors can sample a delicious mojete (clams in wine sauce) and cachorreñas (orange soup), two of the most popular dishes in this area. The day begins with the Eucharist said in honour of San Isidro, and during the morning you can see an impressive display by 500 lacemakers at the Bobbin Festival, an ancestral art form that uses thread and needles.
