Malaga Club de Futbol is a Spanish football team based in Malaga, Andalusia, Spain. The club was founded on the 3rd April 1904 and they currently play in the Segunda Division, the second tier of Spanish football.

After a few name changes throughout their history for various reasons, on 19th December  1993, club members voted to change the name to what we know today as Malaga Club de Futbol S.A.D.

Quatari Ownership

Since June 2010 Abdullah ben Nasser Al Thani, a Qatari investor has owned the club and on July 28th 2010 was named president in the members meeting. The Head Coach is Sergio Pellicer and the team plays at the 30,044 capacity stadium, La Rosealeda, which literally translates to The Rose Garden.

Top International Players

Malaga have had a host of top international players to represent them including Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Jeremy Toulalan. Current Real Madrid player Isco, played for Malaga from 2011-2013 before Real Madrid paid 30 million euros in June 2013. Malagas record signing is Santi Cazorla who arrived from Villarreal in a 21 million euro deal.

The club qualified for the Champions league for the first time in their history by finishing fourth in the 2011-12 La Liga season.

EUFA Ban

The following season UEFA banned Malaga and other clubs for its debts from European competitions for which it would qualify, in the next four seasons. The ban was eventually downgraded to one season meaning the club were excluded from the 2013-14 Europa League.
