Ancient Tomb Discovered

The remains of six ancient tombs have been discovered in Estepona on the Costa Del Sol.  They were part of a Muslim necropolis called Medina Istibbuna.  These tombs are especially rare as they are brick covered, and there are no other examples of monuments like this dating from the 13th to 15th centuries in the area.

The tombs have been found due to the archaeology works undertaken in accordance with the Andalucia assets law, which says that digs have to be carried out before giving work licenses to the owners of houses in the old town in order to confirm that no historical remains will be damaged.  The contents of the tombs will be safely removed and transported to the Estepona Archaeological Museum for further study.
