British Man Punched In The Face For Filming Mijas Donkeys
A British tourist is claiming that he was punched in the face on Sunday by a man working with the Mijas donkeys. At the time of the incident there was a yellow weather warning in place, and Mijas laws don’t allow the operation of donkey taxis whilst weather warnings are in place.
The injured tourist is part of a Facebook group which is raising awareness of the treatment and welfare of the Mijas donkeys. He was filming evidence of the animals being forced to work in the extreme heat when he claims a man attacked him, knocked him to the ground, and punched him in the face causing cuts and scratches. Mijas town hall and the Guardia Civil are now investigating the incident.
Donkeys And Horses Cannot Work in Extreme Heat
Mijas Town Hall introduced a rule on the 5th August requiring donkey taxis and horse drawn carriage services to be reduced in extreme heat “with the aim of protecting the health and welfare of both the drivers and animals”. The order prevents the operation of the donkey taxis during amber or red heat warnings. During a yellow weather warning the animals must not work between 2pm and 6pm
