Costa Del Sol Storm

More than 1000 lightning strikes were recorded on Friday 29th January during an enormous Costa Del Sol storm.  Torrential rainfall caused flooding, as an amber weather alert was issued for the Malaga area.  The meteorological centre in Malaga has measured an average rainfall of 20 litres per square meter in just one hour, with an accumulation of 37 square meters in Fuengirola.

Emergency services were called to deal with 30 reported incidents caused by localised flooding, many areas lost traffic light signals along with domestic and commercial power supplies. 93.6 Global Radio was also taken off the air by a power cut which affected the main transmitter building.  Broadcasting resumed at 7.30am on Saturday morning.  87 flights were also disrupted at Malaga airport.  There are no reports of any serious injuries.  Some communities have also reported a disruption in water supplies.
