Help

Beach goers spotted a body in the water at 10.30am on Sunday.  Surfers were able to respond to cries for help and despite the conditions, managed to pull the man ashore.  Three people on the beach, including an off duty nurse, gave the man CPR for ten minutes but he could not be revived.

Ambulance

When an ambulance arrived at the beach, paramedics used two shots of adrenaline and further CPR, but declared the 41 year old man dead twenty minutes later.

More Rescues

During the course of Sunday, the lifeguards carried our a further 18 rescues, including a dramatic incident in which 25 tourists formed a human chain to help return a stricken swimmer to shore.  8 people were treated in hospital on Sunday following incidents in the water.

Red Flag

When red flags are displayed on beaches here on the Costa Del Sol, no one should enter the sea under any circumstances.  The flags warn of dangerous currents and waves which could over power even a strong swimmer.  The Coastguard has said that more people than ever are ignoring these warning flags, putting their own lives and the lives of the life guards at risk.
