Our dear friend and colleague Martin Edward Marriot Reay, known to his friends as “Stingray”, passed away on the 27th January 2024.  Martin presented The Weekend Wind Down on Sunday evenings between 2014 and 2023.  His funeral service took place on the 9th February at Castle Crematorium in Carlisle.  The service was attended by more than 100 people, with many others taking part through a webstream.

Martin’s death has touched us all deeply, he was only 48 years old.  Martin worked all over the UK in his various I.T. related rolls, including a period as head of I.T. for the CN Radio Group.  Martin was also an accomplished radio presenter, often heard on CFM in Carlisle and here at 93.6 Global Radio.  Martin also worked with the Cumbria Police as an I.T. specialist.  Martin’s colleagues from the police force formed an honour guard at the funeral.

Martin and Steffan were friends for many years.

93.6 Global Radio presenter Steffan La Touche was a close friend of Martin’s for many years.  “Martin was the most genuine person I’ve ever met. A truly generous soul, who would give you his last euro if you needed it. In a time when people are desperate to stand out, Martin represented a person who stood out for simply being themselves. If I were to sum up Martin in a quote it would be: “He did the common things uncommonly well”.

Like all the family at 96.3 Global Radio, I will miss his cheery smile, infectious laugh and F1 & Rugby banter.  RIP Stingray AKA Martin Reay”.

Martin Reay passed away on the 27th January 2024.

93.6 Global Radio presenter Dave James first met Martin in 2004.  “We met as colleagues at a radio group, but became friends instantly due to our shared love of curry, Formula One, and music.  Martin’s cheeky sense of humour, wit, intelligence, and kindness endeared him to everyone he knew.

In all the years I knew Martin, he never once said no when I asked him for help because I couldn’t get a computer to work!  Martin’s advice usually began with “turn it off and on again”.  That almost always did the trick.

I miss him enormously, he was a friend who was always at the end of the phone if I needed him.  Rest in peace Stingray”.

Martin’s family included his devoted Mum Linda and Dad Wilson, his loving sister Sam, and his cherished nephews Thomas and Jack.

Rest In Peace Martin.
