Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s monster hit “Despacito” got even bigger when a remix featuring Justin Bieber singing in Español premiered this week, and it had the biggest music debut of 2017 on YouTube, according to the video-sharing site.
In just 24 hours, the new version of the reggaetón chart-topper, which dropped Monday, garnered approximately 20 million views worldwide on YouTube — making it the biggest debut of a music video on the platform this year (so far).
In a previous interview, the Puerto Rican singer/songwriter said the feel-good track “celebrates our Latin culture and who we are; movement, dancing and rhythm are engraved in my bones.” He added: “The genre I listen to the most is salsa, so people look at me and see this guy who’s done mostly romantic ballads, but there’s always been this other side. It captures the best of both worlds, and I think that’s helped the success of the song.”
