Byblos Hotel Restoration Begins

The iconic Byblos Hotel in Mijas Golf has been derelict since the last guests departed in 2010.  The former five star luxury resort had hosted guests including Princess Diana, the Saudi Arabian Royal family, the Rolling Stones, and Antonio Banderas.  A €50 million redevelopment project finally got underway last week, as building work started to restore the hotel.

Derelict Mijas Hotel To Be Redeveloped

The Byblos Hotel has been empty since 2010.

The redevelopment and extension plans now include a fourth floor to be added to the main structure, which will house the penthouse suites.  The new hotel will have 215 guest rooms, a rooftop bar, indoor and outdoor pools, a restaurant, a beauty spa, fitness facilities, and a cinema.  Plans to build an underground car park have now been shelved.

Byblos Hotel Derelict

The derelict Byblos Hotel is going to be a Hyatt branded resort.

Iconic Exterior Preserved

Most of the work is being carried out inside the building, as the developers hope to maintain the famous external features.  The redevelopment should be completed in mid to late 2022, with the first new guests expected before Christmas next year.  The Byblos Hotel is now owned by Intriva, and will be managed by Marugal Hotel Management.  The hotel will be reopened under the luxury Hyatt Unbound Collection brand.
