Rush To Repair Beaches Before Easter.  The Costa Del Sol coastline has been battered by force 9 storms which caused extensive damage.

Rush To Repair Beaches Before Easter

The rush to repair Costa Del Sol beaches before Easter is now on.  The coastline has been battered by storms this week, as winds reached gale force 9 intensity and heavy rain fall damaged facilities.  Sand has been eroded and washed away, whilst beach bars and promenades have suffered damage.

Costa Del Sol Disaster Zone

Businesses and local councils have asked the government to declare a the beaches a disaster zone.  There are calls for immediate financial assistance to repair the damage before the Easter holidays, and to improve coastal defenses to reduce the risk of further damage in the future.  In Fuengirola more than 150 workers have been called up to begin the clean up operation.

Widespread Damage To Costa Del Sol Beaches

Damage caused by the storms is widespread.  At Calahonda the beach has been decimated, with sewage pipes broken and exposed.  Large amounts of sand has been lost from Sabinillas beach at Manilva.  In Fuengirola the beaches at Santa Amalia and San Francisco have been eroded and left with steep slopes to the ocean.  Beach bars have also been damaged in along the whole coastline.

In Torremolinos the beaches at La Carihuela and Bajondillo have been badly damaged.  The beach at Arroyo De La Miel has suffered damage, and breakwaters at Malapesquera beach have been exposed.  Near Malaga at Guadalmar the beach wall has partially collapsed.  Walkways and the dunes around Cabopino have also suffered from storm damage.
