Sierra De Mijas Fire Stabilised. Emergency services have brought the devastating blaze under control as a team of 100 are working to extinguish the fire.
Sierra De Mijas Fire Stabilised
The devastating fire which broke out in Sierra De Mijas on Friday afternoon has been stabilised. Infoca announced on Sunday afternoon that the threat of the fire is greatly reduced, and that work is underway to fully extinguish the blaze. 100 fire fighters remain in the area to continue the containment efforts.

New Small Fires Not Cause For Concern
The fire is no longer advancing, and teams are using specialist machinery and setting up water lines to maintain the perimiter. There are still many “hot spots” and more small fires are expected to break out. Alejandro Molina from Molina says “There are many hot spots left. We do not rule out any reactivation within the perimeter, so we ask the neighbors not to be alarmed if they see new smoke and flames”.

Residents Are Returning Home
The fire has consumed 2070 hectares of land, which is around 20 square kilometres. When the blaze was as it’s worst over the weekend there were 15 aircraft and 400 people on the ground involved fighting to bring it under control. More than 2000 people were forced to leave their homes, however they have all been able to return today.
