Desalination Trucks Brought In To Ease Drought.
Three mobile water treatment units and being brought to Marbella, Fuengirola, and Velez Malaga as the regional government take more steps to ease the water shortages. One of the units is for desalination, which is the process of turning sea water into drinking water. The other two units are for sanitising well water. The three units should boost the available water in the area significantly.
Ships could also be used to deliver water supplies to Malaga port. Each ship could deliver 40,000 cubic hectometres of drinking water, or 100,000 cubic hectometres of untreated water. Malaga does have the facilities to receive the water shipments, but Carmen Crespo from the regional ministry said this would be a last resort as the cost would be around €10 million a month.
