Malaga Trains Cancelled After Fatal Toledo Crash
Rail travel across Andalusia has been severely disrupted following a major high speed train collision in the province of Toledo. All high speed rail connections between Madrid and southern Spain – including direct services to Malaga, Seville, and Cordoba have been suspended.
Major Collision Near Urda
The disaster occurred at approximately 8.54am on the main Madrid to Andalusia high speed corridor near the town of Urda (Toledo). A Renfe AVE service and a private Iryo passenger train collided, leading to the derailment of several carriages, with two carriages falling down an embankment.
Emergency response teams including search and rescue personnel, fire crews, and medical helicopters from across Castilla La Mancha and neighboring regions were dispatched immediately.
As search and rescue operations continue at the crash site initial reports indicate at least 68 fatalities, with around 180 people injured. Authorities caution this number may rise as emergency crews work through the wreckage.More than 540 people were traveling on the two trains.
National railway infrastructure manager Adif has halted all traffic along the corridor while emergency teams work and technical authorities launch a full investigation into the cause of the crash. The line closure directly cuts off Malaga María Zambrano station from Madrid Puerta de Atocha.
Local Cercanías lines within Málaga continue to run (C1 to Fuengirola and C2 to Alora), though passengers are advised to expect minor delays across the regional network.
Alternative Routes
Long distance coach operators (such as Alsa) and domestic flights between Malaga and Madrid remain the primary alternative transport options.
Emergency Helpline
Renfe has activated its emergency helpline for relatives of passengers involved in the incident. The emergency number is 900 101020.
