Power Cuts And Flooding Caused By Storms
The yellow weather warning issued by AEMET remains in place today after the Costa Del Sol was battered by dramatic thunderstorms early this morning. 30 litres of rain per square metre was recorded in places.
Many communities experienced power cuts. Susan Watkins in Coin told us that the power was on and off for several hours this morning. Elaine Jackson experienced similar power cuts in Fuengirola. She says “The noise of the thunder was enormous, I’ve never heard anything like it. The power went off at about 8 this morning in Las Lagunas, and didn’t come back on again for a few hours”.
Localised flooding has been reported on some roads in Estepona, Fuengirola, and Los Alamos. Driving conditions have also been hampered by traffic light failure caused by the heavy rain. All traffic systems have now been restored and roads seem to be operating usually at the moment.
