Saturday’s weather warning has been increased to the amber level. This is the second most severe level. Temperatures could hit 41c on The Costa Del Sol. Spain’s national weather agency (AEMET) has put the official warning in place from 1pm to 9pm. Sunday (20th August) is likely to feel slightly cooler with highs of 32c.

High temperatures can potentially pose a risk to people, pets, and the possibility of wild fires is greatly increased.

With the high temperatures comes an increased risk of fires which have been known to devastate areas of the Costa Del Sol. There is also an increased risk to animals, as pet owners are being reminded to provide shade and water for their animals.

Emergency services are on standby to deal with fires caused by the high temperatures.

Red: Take action. Extreme weather is expected. Red means people in the concerned areas should take action now to keep themselves and others safe from the impact of the weather. Widespread damage, travel and power disruption and risk to life is likely.
