Andalucia Needs 100 Days Of Rain
Andalucia is facing a water shortage this summer, as its been revealed that reserves have fallen to 30% of their capacity. Regional President Juanma Moreno has told journalists that he is “very concerned” and described how “to return to normality, it would take 100 days of constant rain”.
A national plan to tackle water shortages has not yet been formulated by central government, which Moreno said is a surprise, considering the seriousness of the situation. He added that without action to move water around the country and improve water storage facilities, Andalucia is going to have “a very complicated autumn and winter”.
Reservoir Reserves Below 30%
Residents and businesses are being urged to limit water consumption where possible. This year in Marbella less than half the amount of rainfall has been collected, compared to this time last year.
The two main storage reservoirs in the province are now below 30% of capacity, with less than half the amount of water that was stored a year ago. The reservoirs at Viñuela and Guadalhorce are showing no signs of improvement as rainfall continues to be scarce. The current situation has been classified “code red”, indicating the most severe risk of drought.
