Benahavis Blaze Forces 2000 People From Their Homes
A forest fire broke out close to Benahavis on Thursday afternoon (9th July). In total, 2053 people were evacuated from their homes. By 3pm on Friday nost of these people have been allowed to retun in the Los Flamingos, Parque Botanico, and the Four Seasons areas. 257 people from the Marbella Club Hills urbanisation and Caserías del Esperonal remain evacuated. The Red Cross have set up emergency accomodation at the Benahavis sports centre, though most evacuees chose to shelter with family and friends.

The fire is still being classed as “active” by emergency services, who have managed to secure around 70% of the fire’s perimeter. Since the blaze broke out at around 4.30pm four helicopters, three planes, twelve fire engines, and around 130 specialist fire fighters have been tackling the emergency.

There are currently 3 fire engines, 1 helicopter, and 44 people on the ground working to stabilise the fire (at 3pm on Friday 19th July).
