Calima Hits The Costa Del Sol
A yellow weather alert is in place for the Costa Del Sol right now. The alert is for heavy rain today along with the phenomenon knows as “calima” – which is haze. The haze is caused by sand which has been blown from the Sahara desert and is falling to earth with the rain. The “calima” is leaving sandy mud on roads and causing poor visibility for drivers.

The warning is in place until 10pm today (Tuesday 15th March 2022). Yellow is the least severe of the three weather warning levels. The rainfall is being welcomed as local reservoirs have extremely low water levels and experts are warning of drought
conditions.
