A civil protection alarm has sounded on mobile phones across the Costa Del Sol. The warning is a red level weather alert for torrential rain and potential flooding.
This is the message transmitted to phones at 2.50pm. Civil Protection Alert: Red alert activated – In this situation: exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary travel. Do not cross flood-prone areas and respect traffic closures. Do not carry out activities in or near riverbeds. If you are in a flood-prone area, seek higher ground or go to an upper floor. Spain’s national weather agency AEMET is warning of 120mm of rainfall in 12 hours. forThe red weather warning is active until midnight tonight (Sunday 4th January). Red is the most severe of the three warning levels.
