Costa Del Sol Covid Figures Causing Concern

Health officials in Andalucia are concerned by the rapidly rising number of coronavirus cases in the region.  The accumulated incidence rate for the whole of Andalucia is 73.3 cases per 100,000 people. The Costa Del Sol health district’s 14 day accumulated incidence rate is now 100.6, whilst the rate for Malaga Province has increased to 86.4 cases per 100,000 people.

In the last 24 hours there have been 104 new cases of coronavirus reported in Malaga Province,  bringing the total number since the start of the pandemic to 158,082.  Andalucia has registered 425 new cases of coronavirus today. The total number of infections in the region now stands at 814,432.

The panel of experts will be meeting to discuss the reintroduction of restrictions.

Reintroducing Restrictions

The regional panel of health experts and advisors will be meeting soon to discuss the possible reintroduction of restrictions to curb the spread of covid-19,  The regional health minister Jesus Aguirre said the group will meet later this week or early next week and discuss “some measures” which may be appropriate considering the “clear upward trend in the accumulated incidence rate”.

The New Normal

The Costa Del Sol health district is currently at alert level zero, which is being called “the new normal”.  Bars, restaurants, and retailers have welcomed the removal of limits to the numbers of customers and their opening hours.  Face masks remain mandatory indoors.
