During the winter, 3.2 million tourists visited the Costa Del Sol, breaking tourist number records.  Experts are predicting that the coming summer season will also be record breaking, with an estimated 7.3 million tourists expected to visit the area.

Spanish and British visitors made up 60% of the tourists on the Costa Del Sol this winter.  Tourism director Arturo Bernal says “Every year we are showing travellers that Malaga can be a year-round destination”.

Not everyone is convinced that tourism is growing though, despite the positive figures.  Janet Thurston runs a cafe bar in Estepona and feels that things are quieter than ever.  “Where are these people?  Myself and other bar and restaurant owners who I know have felt that this winter has been quieter than ever.  It’s been a struggle.”
