The atmosphere around the castle in Fuengirola last night (11th July) was electric as around 15,000 fans queued to enter the Marenostrum stage area to see Jennifer Lopez perform her Up All Night show.  But the atmosphere turned sour when the gates didn’t open at 7.45pm as scheduled.  A yellow weather warning for gale force 7 winds was posing a safety threat, and the decision was made to delay the event.

Gale Force Winds Caused Major Delays

Our presenter Gary Jones was in the queue and says “we received an email telling us that things had been delayed, and we’d be updated in an hour’s time.  But no update came.  There were just thousands of people stood waiting, with no water, and no idea if the show would even go ahead.  After waiting for about two hours people were getting restless”.

Fans were eventually allowed to enter at around 9.30pm, but many have described a dangerous rush with no direction and poor organisation.  Some have described feeling unsafe as people surged towards the entrances.  It’s reported that staff gave up checking bags and tickets and just allowed people through.

“Danger And Despair”

Jennifer Lopez was scheduled to begin how show at 9.45pm, but didn’t take to the stage until 10.50pm as fans were still entering the venue.  Concert goers have blasted the organisers for letting the show start whilst people were still trying to get inside.  Maddie Hjort described in a Facebook post how people pushed over barriers once they heard the show starting.  She says “the danger and despair from the very little security was awful! There were kids there!”

Rip Off Refreshment Charges

Other fans are furious that once inside the venue they were charged €5 for a small bottle of water.  Joanne Copestake told us “We’d queued for over 3 hours in the heat to get inside, with no water or refreshments.  Once we got in, we had to pay €5 just for water, it’s disgraceful and dangerous.  I’ll never go to see another show at Marenostrum“.

Sound Quality Problems Distracted From The Performance

Of the performance itself, Gary Jones says Jennifer Lopez was on fantastic form though there issues with sound quality.  “She was amazing” he told us.  “Her energy and connection to the crowd was everything you’d expect from someone of her stature.  She was let down by the sound quality at times though, I think they’d had to move speakers because of the wind which affected things.  Overall, it says something when people are only talking about the disastrous organisation and not the great show”.

Complaints And Refund Requests

Neither Marenostrum or the tour organiser have made any statements regarding the event.  Ticket holders have been advised that they can complain and request refunds by emailing sales@lasttour.org
