British expat Georgia White was on board the 6.45am flight from East Midlands to Malaga. She told 93.6 Global Radio that at 9.15am, just 15 minutes before landing, the pilot informed passengers that they were turning round and returning to the UK. “It’s been frightening” she said. “We were so close to landing, then we had to turn around. I know the situation is serious but this seems unfair”.
Miss. White was onboard a Jet2 flilght to Malaga which turned around just 15 minutes before it was due to land.
Ryanair Flights Still Operating
Miss. White is studying in Chester and was returning to Malaga to spend time with her family near Fuengirola. “I’m now stuck in England on my own, so I’m trying to find another flight to Malaga. We were told on the plane that Spanish airspace has been closed, but we’ve now found out that’s not true so I’ve booked a Ryanair flight for later today”.
Jet2 released this statement through their Twitter account.
Malaga Airport Open
Jet2 is currently the only operator not flying into Malaga. Spanish airspace remains open and Malaga airport is operating as normal. You can track incoming and outbound flights on our website here.
