Fuengirola Hotel Hit By Lightning

The popular tourist hotel Las Palmeras in the centre of Fuengirola was struck by lightning during a violent storm on Friday night.  Nearby roads were closed as emergency services rushed to the scene.

Stonework on the exterior of the building was damaged and had to be secured by an emergency work crew overnight.  Some nearby buildings and the hotel itself were evacuated for a short time.  No casualties have been reported.

Eyewitness Account

Eyewitness Gary Jones told 93.6 Global Radio “I was in a bar over the road from the hotel, we were all taking shelter from the torrential rain.  The thunder was really loud and then the hotel was hit by a crack of lightning.  The noise sounded like an explosion.  It was really scary”.
