Government Rejects Bid To Extend Curfew In Andalucia

The Junta De Andalucia had proposed bringing the start of the regional curfew forward to 8pm to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.  The national government have now ruled that this won’t be permitted.  They also rejected a bid to be able to lockdown municipalities with an infection rate higher than 1000 cases per 100,000 people.

The national government held meetings with heads of the autonomous regions yesterday, and decided that enough flexibility had been offered for regions to tackle the rising number of coronavirus cases.  Salvador Illa, the Health Secretary, said “We have flattened the curve twice before. When we bring in restrictions on a Monday, we don’t see results on the Tuesday; we see them in two Mondays’ time.”
