Grand Prix Racing Could Return To Andalucia
Formula One could be returning to the Jerez circuit in Andalucia next year. The regional Vice-President confirmed that the circuit is now first reserve to hold a race next year, if any of of the existing fixtures can’t go ahead. Speaking at the International Tourism Fair in London, Juan Marin said that he would love to see a Grand Prix race at Jerez. He pointed out that despite the huge investment needed, Formula One would be a huge boost for tourism and the local economy.
In 1986 Senna pipped Mansell to the win at Jerez by just 0.014 seconds. One of the closest finishes in history.
Five Million Euros To Improve Circuit
The circuit at Jerez last hosted a Grand Prix in 1997. Formula One cars last used the track in 2015 when the winter pre-season testing was held at Jerez. To bring the race track up to current Grand Prix standards would cost in the region of €5 million, which Juan Marin said would be financed partially from public funds along with private investment.
