Huelva Forest Fire Stabilised
The forest fire which has been burning near Huelva in Andalucia since Monday has now been stabilised. The local government have reduced the emergency state to level 1. Since the fire broke out 370 people were evacuated, all those people have now been allowed to return to their homes. 5000 hectares of land has been destroyed by the blaze.
The “stabilised” classification does not mean that the fire is out or even fully under control. The term is used to describe a situation which is evolving favorably and no longer presents active fire fronts. Emergency services are still working to secure the perimeter and prevent possible reactivations.
The fire broke out in Villanueva de los Castillejos on Monday morning. More than 500 specialist ground crews have been tackling the blaze along with aerial support and soldiers from the UME in Seville.
