ISIS Threat Against Spain – a government report has warned of a “direct threat” as ISIS sympathisers are urged to attack
ISIS Threat Against Spain
Terror group ISIS have urged their sympathisers in Spain to “attack, attack, attack” in revenge for a recent crackdown on militants. Since 2015, there have been more than 200 arrests made here.
Videos
The number of videos issued by ISIS with Spanish subtitles has increased dramatically in the last year. ISIS has also upped it’s recruitment of Spanish translators in Syria and Iraq, where it may be planning to attack Spanish speaking foreign fighters.
One of these videos is 14 minutes long. It is called ‘The path of the righteous parents’ and shows ISIS fighters trampling on a Spanish flag.
Costa Del Sol
With tourist numbers expected to be at an all time high on the Costa Del Sol this summer, the government are urging citizens to be vigilant. David Videcette, a former Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism officer says “It’s very possible there could be an attack in Spain. When you think about it Spain is one of the few countries in Europe that hasn’t had a major attack in recent years. They may well be looking to attack specific countries with tourists. It’s very possible that the Costa Brava, Costa Del Sol, those sorts of places could be on someone’s target list.”
What Can You Do?
The Spanish government has set up a website and hotline where you can anonymously report any suspicious activity. The telephone number is 900 822 066, and the website can be reached here.
