New Traffic Laws In Spain

New traffic laws come into force on the 22nd March in Spain.  The changes are designed to improve road safety and reduce accidents.  The main points include an allowance of up to 20kph for motorists overtaking other vehicles.  Not wearing a seatbelt or not securing a child seat correctly will incur four penalty points.  Driving with a mobile phone in your hand will incur six penalty points.

The new rules will penalise drivers and passengers caught throwing objects including litter and cigarette butts from vehicles.  Doing so can cause fires or present a danger to pedestrians and other road users.   This offence will carry six penalty points. Carrying devices which block radar or other traffic monitoring signals will become illegal.  Even if not being used.  The penalty will be three license points.

Radar Jammer Police Speed

It will be illegal to have a radar jammer in your car.

No Alcohol For Under 18s

Drivers and riders (including cars, scooters, mopeds, bicycles, and mobility scooters) under 18 are no longer allowed to drink any alcohol at all before taking to the road.  Blood and breath tests much register zero alcohol.

Pedestrians are to be given priority at all crossings, on pavements, and in pedestrianised areas.
