Oldest Part Of Malaga’s Roman Theatre Revealed
After a series of administrative setbacks and a three year delay, plans to open the oldest section of Malaga’s iconic Roman Theatre are finally moving forward. Following three previous public tenders that were unfortunately declared void, the construction contract has officially been awarded to the firm Tesela. The project will focus on building new elevated walkways across the historic site, allowing visitors safe access to explore the most ancient, deeply rooted layers of the monument.

The Roman remains can be found by the Alcazaba in Malaga.
Unlocking History: Thermal Baths and Ancient Pools
The newly approved development will grant public access to previously restricted archaeological remains surrounding the theatre, including ancient Roman thermal baths and traditional garum production pools (where the famous fermented fish sauce prized by the Romans was made).
Nestled at the foot of the Alcazaba, the Roman Theatre is already one of Malaga city centre’s most celebrated historical landmarks. These new pathways will bridge the gap between casual sightseeing and deeper archaeological discovery, giving locals and tourists a rare, up close look at how the ancient city of functioned centuries ago.
With the contract now secured work is expected to progress toward finally welcoming visitors to this previously inaccessible part of the city’s rich Roman heritage.
