Spanish Queen Cleans Up Costa Del Sol Beach
Queen Sofia of Spain made a surprise appearance at an event in Rincon De La Victoria at the weekend. The mother of King Felipe VI visited the town to mark the international beach cleaning day. She joined the town mayor and local volunteers as they cleaned up a stretch of beach.
The Queen was met with applause and cheers from surprised volunteers who did not know that she would be visiting. The occasion was kept quiet to minimise crowds and help maintain social distancing policies. Queen Sofia was dressed casually, and wearing a face mask with gloves.
Down To Earth
Volunteers have been saying how down to earth and chatty the Queen was. Alison Dobbs lives in Rincon De La Victoria and frequently gets involved with beach cleaning projects. She says “it was such a surprise! We were picking up rubbish on the beach when a few people with cameras and some security arrived, and word got round pretty quickly that the Queen was here. She made an effort to chat with as many people as possible, she told me that she liked my Harry Potter face mask! She seemed really nice”.
