Surveillance Helicopters Seen Over The Costa Del Sol
Marbella residents witnessed cinematic scenes overnight as National Police surveillance helicopters hovered meters above rooftops. Powerful searchlights swept directly across apartment building facades and residential streets.
The intense aerial sweeps – which locals described as “looking like a scene straight out of an action movie” – are part of a massive police operation under the reinforced Plan Costa del Sol.
This air and ground effort follows a string of violent incidents and shootings across the province in recent weeks, prompting authorities to deploy specialized tactical units, including the Unidad de Intervención Policial (UIP), Unidad de Prevención y Reacción (UPR), canine units, and heavy air support (Medios Aéreos).
Why The Sudden Surge In Surveillance?
Police sources confirmed that the low altitude flights and search lights are part of targeted surveillance sweeps aimed at disrupting organized crime networks, tracking suspect movements, and detecting hidden drug distribution points in real time.
The National Police reactivated and expanded the specialized surveillance protocol across Marbella and Malaga following multiple gun related incidents in late September.
By taking to the skies with high intensity thermal imaging and searchlights, law enforcement aims to blanket known hot spots, providing direct visual cover for ground officers raiding suspect properties.
Senior police officials are saying that the high visibility patrols will continue indefinitely across strategic points of the Costa del Sol to restore public safety and deter further violent crime.
