Wettest March In Malaga For 21 Years
Malaga Province has experienced a huge amount of rainfall this month, with three weeks of almost continuous rain and storms. Spain’s national weather agency AEMET says that this has been the wettest March since 2004, and the second wettest since 1943.
The average amount of rainfall in March is normally 52 litres per square metre, but this year Marbella has had 256 litres of rainfall per square metre. In Benahavis there has been an enormous 356 litres per square metre recorded, and in Coin the amount of rainfall was 329 litres per square metre. There were multiple weather warnings during March for torrential rain, gale force winds, and even a tornado warning! The main road between Marbella and Ronda has also been closed following a landslide.

Local Reservoirs Recovering
Water levels at the reservoirs which supply Malaga Province and the Costa Del Sol have been boosted by the heavy rain this month. The reservoir which supplies most of the Costa Del Sol has seen the biggest increase in water levels. La Concepcion water levels are now at an impressive 77.42%.of capacity. This time last year the level was below 25%.
The Embalse Conde De Guadalhorce which supplies Malaga city has increased to 93.94%, in March last year the level was just 19.7% of capacity. La Vinuela reservoir supplies water to 14 towns and 220,000 people in the Axarquia area. In March last year the reservoir levels were at 7.8% of capacity. Today the amount of water is at 36.36% of capacity.
