Weather Warning For The Costa Del Sol.  Spain’s national weather agency has placed the area on Yellow Alert for heavy rain and storms.

Weather Warning For The Costa Del Sol

Spain’s national weather agency (AEMET) has issued a yellow weather warning for the Costa Del Sol.  The alert is effective immediately, and will remain in place until 8pm on Tuesday 27th April.  Forecasters are predicting thunderstorms, strong winds, and accumulated rainfall over 12 hours of 40mm.

The Mayor of Benalmadena is calling for improved coastal defences.

Mayor Demands Better Defences

The Costa Del Sol has already taken a battering this weekend.  Storm Lola has left a trail of destruction.  Benalmadena’s Mayor Victor Navas says the damage to beaches has been substantial, and is calling for better coastal defences.  He said “The need to build barriers to protect our beaches is vital. We need solutions now – we can’t wait any longer.”

Types Of Weather Warnings

Yellow: Be aware. Severe weather is possible over the next few days and could affect people in the concerned area. Yellow means that you should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays, or the disruption of your day-to-day activities.

Orange: Be prepared. There is an increased likelihood of bad weather affecting people in the concerned area, which could potentially disrupt people’s plans and possibly cause travel delays, road and rail closures, interruption to power and the potential risk to life and property.

Red: Take action. Extreme weather is expected. Red means people in the concerned areas should take action now to keep themselves and others safe from the impact of the weather. Widespread damage, travel and power disruption and risk to life is likely.
