Malaga Airport Set For Massive Redevelopment
The airport operator AENA has today confirmed that a €1.5 billion investment into the expansion and redevelopment of Malaga Airport will go ahead. The existing terminals will almost double in size, from 80,000 square metres to 140,000 square metres. There will also be a new docking area for flights coming from outside the Schengen zone with it’s own passport control facilities, more positions will be created for planes to dock at the main terminal allowing passengers access via air bridges, and baggage handling facilities will be upgraded.

Plans released by AENA showing the improvements which will be made to Malaga Airport.
More Passengers And More Retail Space
The expansion will significantly increase the number of travellers able to use Malaga Airport, allowing for 36 million people a year to pass through. Commercial and retail spaces will be increased by 41%. There will also be new aircraft taxi lanes built connecting the runways to the parking apron which will improve the movement of planes around the airport.
Work to develop plans for this project will get underway in September 2026, with construction work taking place between 2027 and 2031.
