Leonid Meteor Shower Peaks This Evening
The Leonid meteor shower is one of the most vibrant and spectacular events to be seen in the night sky. It has been visible from the Costa Del Sol every night during November, but reaches it’s peak at 7pm this evening (17th November). Unfortunately the cloud coverage is likely to be at around 70% making visibility poor.
When the shower peaks at around 7pm there will be as many as 20 shooting stars per hour. The moon will be in it’s “waning phase” at around 6% illumination, so it will not detract from the spectacle.
If poor visibility prevents you from seeing the shower at it’s peak, you will still be able to watch for shooting stars until the end of November, though the frequency will reduce to around 10 an hour.

The shooting stars will be visible until the 30th November.
Leonid Meteor Shower
The Leonid meteor shower has been recurring for centuries, when the Earth passes through a field of debris left behind by the comet Tempel-Tuttle . As the debris burns up in our atmosphere, it leaves bright trails with explosions of light and colour.
The best viewing places will be away from built up areas where there is less light and fewer obstructions. You can view the shooting stars with the naked eye, there is no risk.
