Confusion Over Crash Helmets For Car Drivers On The Costa Del Sol

Drivers across the Costa del Sol have been left reeling this morning following the apparent “quiet release” of a new Royal Decree from the DGT regarding driver safety.  According to reports circulating early today, all drivers of passenger vehicles in Spain will be required by law to wear an approved safety helmet while operating a vehicle on public roads, effective immediately.

The new regulation aims to reduce “minor head bumps” during low-speed collisions and sudden braking in heavy traffic.  Paulo Tonto from the Andalucian Road Safety Executive said “The roads here on the Costa Del Sol are some of the safest in the world, but we must still do everything we can do reduce injury in the case of a crash.  Drivers wearing crash helmets has been something we’ve considered for some time.  It makes sense which-ever way you look at it.”
